School Receives Six Year Accreditation

This week, the school received the final verdict on March’s Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation. The Accrediting Commission for Schools of the WASC evaluated the school from Sunday, March 3 to Wednesday, March 6, when they assessed the school’s classroom and campus environments by interviewing and observing campus life. Los Altos received another six-year accreditation term.

Marching Band Petitions for PE Credit

The marching bands and color guards of Los Altos and Mountain View High School are requesting second year physical education credit for participants. This would mean five P.E. credits for each fall a student participates in marching band or color guard after their freshman year.

School Holds Spring Art Show

The annual spring art show will be held in the cafeteria tomorrow, May 17, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Students will get a chance to walk around during first through sixth period and view a gallery of the art students’ work. Although the show will not include an auction, viewers can contact the artist if they find a piece particularly appealing.

New Mountain View High School Principal Announced

Today, Thursday, May 16 the district announced Dave Grissom as the principal at Mountain View High School (MVHS) for the next school year. Current principal Keith Moody is slated to become Director of Adult Education next year. The school board will vote on Grissom’s appointment at their May 28 meeting.

School Receives Prestigious Honor for Civic Involvement

In a ceremony that took place from 3 to 4 p.m. today, May 3, the California Department of Education awarded the Civic Learning Award to Los Altos High School for its excellent participation in local and global civic matters.

Teacher Donates Kiwanis Money to AVID Classes

Science teacher Greg Stoehr recently donated $300 worth of classroom supplies to AVID classes, after receiving them in the form of a Kiwanis stipend. The money was awarded through Principal Wynne Satterwhite.

Robotics Team Places Near Top at Competition

The Robotics Team won an elimination match for the first time in six years and made it to semifinals during the Silicon Valley Regional Competition from April 4 to 6 at San Jose State University. The team was one win away from making it to the final round at this competitive event, which drew teams from as far as Texas and Florida.
