Seven students from the MVLA district were recently selected as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program by The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and the Department of Education.
This past week: Washington State legalized gay marriage, President Obama sparked controversy with his birth control policy, the Pirate Bay confirmed that it will delete most torrent files, presidential candidate Rick Santorum leads in recent Republican Primaries, and Obama proposed a 2013 government spending plan.
The Black Student Union (BSU) hosted a poetry slam in room 502 during lunch today, February 16. The performance was designed to raise awareness for the larger poetry slam BSU will be hosting on Thursday, March 1.

The Mock Trial club won a competition against Cupertino High School on Thursday, January 9. The defense team for Mock Trial competed against Cupertino’s prosecution team.
In a flurry of festive shirts and skirts, the Matsiko World Orphan Choir stole the show today, February 9 during lunch. The Choir performed a diverse set of ethnic pieces as well as a few American adaptations, drawing members of the student body into the audience.
The girls softball team will be painting the bleachers by the softball diamond on Saturday, February 11.
Alta Vista High School was named a Model Continuation High School for the fourth time this past week.
The Students for Haiti Solidarity club held a rummage sale fundraiser in the cafeteria on Saturday, February 4.
