The Math Department recently added an additional section of Algebra II. The section was added to accommodate the number of students already enrolled in regular Algebra II classes and the number of students dropping from Algebra II Honors.

Teachers and members of the school administration attended WestEd’s Strategic Literacy Initiative (SLI) on Thursday, October 8 to receive formal training on engaging students in reading. SLI is a professional research project put on by WestEd to study adolescent literacy development.

The One Dollar For Life (ODFL) club was recently recognized with two honors for its work, receiving praise in an international contest sponsored by the Peace Corps and an award for Outstanding Youth Philanthropy by the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

GATE students have been identified through tests they took in elementary school or were nominated by a high school teacher at the end of last year. The coordinators mailed letters to those identified as GATE students inviting them to take part in the program on campus.

The school’s fourth annual Science and Technology Week will be held earlier than in years past. It is now from Monday, November 2 to Friday, November 6. Science and Technology Week allows the school to showcase the work of local scientists, researchers and doctors to expose students to a variety of career paths involving math and science.

In August, the administration replaced old locks on the baseball field to prohibit casual entrance onto both the baseball and football fields. Since everyone from the baseball team and Los Altos Little League knew the combination to the previous locks, people could easily gain access to the field at their convenience.
