This season the girls soccer team has a new coach, Armando Luna. With the new coach come changes to the team in aspects of its play, mentality and approach.
The dance team is hard at work preparing for its competitions in May.
Last year, through the collective efforts of students and staff, the school was able to raise 30,000 pounds of food. It is important for the school to continue setting high goals and seek improvement, as these donations make a huge difference in the lives of families that rely on SHFB.
Seniors Marissa Mirbach and Sophia Steffens, along with Marissa’s mother Susan Mirbach, have formed a committee working with the administration and Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) to revise the school’s cafeteria and dining areas. Currently the Los Altos Food Services is running an annual deficit of about $50,000, which is largely due to problems with the cafeteria and student disinterest in the food provided.
On December 6, the Los Altos School District (LASD) filed a petition for the California Supreme Court to hear their case against Bullis Charter School (BCS). The petition was in response to the October 27 decision made by the California Court of Appeal for the Sixth District, which ruled that LASD was not complying with Proposition 39 during the 2009-2010 academic year.
After first semester is over, English teacher Kathleen Ginder-Vogel will be leaving the school to move to Madison, Wisconsin with her husband. English teacher Lindsey Regoli will take over Ginder-Vogel’s second period World Literature Honors class.
This year, two English teachers and some of their classes will participate in a study called Project Reading, Evidence and Argumentation in Disciplinary Instruction (READI), a federally funded study to find out how students make arguments based on different texts. The project deals with 6th through 12th graders in English classes.
Marching Band ended its season after finishing its final competitive performance on Saturday, November 19.
The Instrumental Music and the Choral Departments have performed several holiday concerts in the past weeks.
