Interact, Adviser to Participate in Swim Event

The Interact Club and its supervisor Judy Strauss will join 110 other swimmers on Saturday, October 3 to raise money for cancer research by attending “Swim Across America.”

“Swim Across America” is a non-profit organization that funds cancer research by hosting an open swim in many different locations nationwide. The event will be held in San Francisco and will be a 1.5 mile swim from the Golden Gate Bridge to Crissy Field Beach.

Strauss has been a part of the organization committee of the event and has participated in this event three times already. However, she said she has not been feeling well recently and is unsure if she can actually participate in this year’s swim.

“Whether I’m in the water or watching from the boats, I know for sure that I will be participating somehow,” Strauss said.

Since Strauss is the adviser for Interact, the club plans to volunteer at the event. Junior Tori Greenen organized the club’s plans to help set up and direct people to the registration at the event.

“It will be a typical volunteering event that our club does,” Tori said. “We hope that we get more students to volunteer with us for our future events.”

Strauss said she is anticipating the event.

“‘Swim Across America’ is a great event and you get the opportunity to swim with Olympians if you participate,” Strauss said. “We’re all looking forward to it.”
