Photo I, II to Add Digital Component

There will be between 10 and 12 Hewlett-Packard computers installed in the photo room, room 714 next year, according to Art Department Coordinator Christine An and photography teacher David Roberts.
Beginning this year, Photo I and II classes incorporated a digital photography component into their curricula to meet criteria for California state standards.
Currently, Digital Photography is offered as a Foothill-sponsored course at the school, and students must enroll through Foothill.
Within regular high school classes, Photo I and II both have a digital component blocked into their curriculums. According to Roberts, the addition of computers would allow students to spend time with traditional film photography in the darkroom and, beginning third quarter, advance on to the digital component without having to use school computer labs.
The decision was made last year to add digital photography and this year to supply computers for various reasons.
“This is the time to do it because it’s 2009,” Roberts said. “We should be just as capable of offering technology to students as any other school, and I think even more so, since [our school] is [in] the hub of technology in Silicon Valley.”
Funds for the computers will be supplied by the Art Department.
Roberts and photography teacher Alice Araneda will guide students through programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS4.
