The Robotics Club will compete at the Cal Games robotics competition tomorrow, Saturday, October 10 at Woodside High School.
The club will use the robot it built last year, which performs the basic task of shooting small balls into the trailers of other teams’ robots. It has low friction wheels that are designed to simulate the moon’s surface.
Club Advisor Karen Davis says although the school did“okay” last year, this year’s robot is a “defensive” one, so it will be able to hold its ground against other robots in the competition.
The club members have been preparing this robot since last January and say they enjoy going to the Cal Games each year because it is the last chance to use the robot from the previous year.
Club member junior Anthony Biondi says the Robotics Club wants to get to finals at this year’s Cal Games since last year it only advanced to semi-finals, with Mountain View High School claiming the victory.
Anthony said he anticipates the club will do “as well if not better” than it did last year in the competition.
According to Davis, the club has had a great start to the year with many enthusiastic members bringing experience and technical skill to the group.
“Robotics is a great group of kids,” Davis said. “I have high hopes.”
