Students will fill out two surveys during Tutorial tomorrow, Tuesday, November 24. The first survey is from Community Hope and Sober Events (CHASE), and the second is from the school.
Students will remain in their third period classes to take the survey, and students without third period will report to the library.
CHASE is administering its survey with ACTUALITY, and the survey asks general questions about alcohol, drug use, GPA and stress. According to Principal Wynne Satterwhite, the CHASE survey aims to “get a sense of who LAHS students are.”
“CHASE wants to know what’s going on,” Assistant Principal Christy Dawson said. “The key word is ‘climate.’”
Students will also take a survey put on by the school. This survey follows up to the cultural proficiency video, “Listening to Student Voices.”
“We want to get a general understanding,” Satterwhite said. “How did we do; did we hit the mark?”
This survey will ask students about boundaries, cliques and barriers separating students from one another.
The administration decided to dedicate Tutorial for the survey so as to not disrupt teaching time and to give students enough time to fill out the survey thoughtfully.
“We thought we should take a little time and dedicate Tutorial,” Dawson said. “That way, students will think about the survey, and we’ll get authentic results.”
Satterwhite articulated similar sentiments.
“This is for staff too,” Satterwhite said. “I’d like to thank everyone in advance for taking this survey seriously.”
