What a girl wants

Although girls love Uggs, snow and chocolate, they want something more for the holidays. Apart from being a time when girls don’t shave their legs, the holiday season is when girls can focus on the things and people that are important in their lives.

Christmas is technically supposed to be a religious celebration for the birth of Jesus. Even though the entire first and second generations of my family are atheists, we still take the liberty of celebrating the holiday every year. I was never a huge believer of Santa Claus, and as a girl, I never baked cookies or spent weeks obsessing over my wish list. My parents weren’t the best at pretending Santa Claus was real, and I always found my presents on top of the washing machine.

These days, we all know that Santa Claus is just an excuse for parents to trick their kids into behaving. With the secret out, girls like me have the responsibility of going holiday shopping. After finals, holiday shopping is the second most stressful thing about winter.

Yet friends and family are not the only thing on a girl’s mind during winter. Even if girls won’t admit it, we all want someone to spend the holiday season with.

Cold winter days are meant to be spent going ice skating, making hot chocolate and watching movies, all activities which are more enjoyable with someone special to share them with.

If a girl doesn’t have a boyfriend, most girls want a kiss from a cute boy on New Year’s Eve. Unfortunately, this has never happened for me. I can’t say my holiday season always turns out the way I expect it to, but it doesn’t bother me so much. Even if I gain five pounds from binge eating and then lose it over a holiday trip, it’s the people in my life that make the holiday season worthwhile.
