Boys Water Polo Plays Final League Game, Celebrates Senior Night

Los Altos’ varsity boys water polo team lost its last game of the season against Palo Alto High School on Tuesday, October 28. The final score was 8-12.

The first quarter began with two swift goals from Palo Alto, but the Eagles rallied quickly and scored a goal themselves. The quarter ended 4-1, in favor of the Vikings.

Within the first two minutes of the second quarter, senior captain Bryan Kim scored another goal for the Eagles. However, by the time second quarter was over, the Vikings had put two more goals in the net.

“We kinda were a little slow the first three quarters,” head coach Seth Tasman said. “We started driving and moving a lot more during that fourth quarter, where [during] the first three were kind of sitting and waiting for someone to step up. We needed to play more as a team.”

Though Los Altos held the Vikings off for a majority of the third—it wasn’t until the last three minutes of third quarter that Palo Alto was able to score—the Vikings managed to score an additional three points to close the quarter off 9-2.

“We came out really slow and didn’t do anything on offense the first three quarters,” Bryan said. “They just kept getting goals.”

The fourth quarter started with senior Sean Nguyen winning the starting sprint, giving the Eagles possession of the ball. The Eagles broke open the fourth, scoring a total of five goals in a comeback effort. The game closed off with a goal by Los Altos, but the lead that the Vikings built in the first three quarters of the game proved too great to overcome.

Although the team lost, the afternoon ended on a positive note. Today was the team’s senior night, which proceeded directly after the game. Each of the team’s seniors—Bryan Kim, Cameron Hayes, Dane Grosvenor, Jason Lai, Joshua Santos, Kenneth Moussavian, Montana Goloubef and Sean Nguyen—was honored for his commitment to the team.

“It was our senior night here, we’ve got a lot of seniors in the water and we tried to really honor them and get them as much playing time as possible,” Tasman said.
