On Friday, May 22, a winner of the school’s annual dodgeball tournament was declared, bringing eight days of “dodgeball fever” to a close.
The Cougar Hunters, which consists of upperclassmen, became the victors after winning all rounds of play in the final match against The Trees, a team comprised of primarily sophomores.
The Cougar Hunters attribute their victory this year to their consistency and alertness on the court.
“We just focused and got the job done,” team member senior Andrea Infeld said.
In an earlier round during the lunch period, the Cougar Hunters were involved in a controversy that was resolved in their favor and ultimately allowed them to continue in the tournament.
In this match against the OT Ballers, a ball was juggled and eventually caught by the Cougar Hunters during the final seconds of the final round. In a game of dodgeball, when a team catches a ball on the fly thrown by the other team, the throwing team’s player is out and the catching team is allowed to bring a player onto the court.
In the game, referees ruled the catch valid and that the Cougar Hunters outnumbered the OT Ballers five to four. In dodgeball, the team with the most players on the court when time runs out wins the round.
For many students, especially seniors, dodgeball is the spirit event that they can remember and treasure after they leave the school.
“I’m so glad to be leaving Los Altos knowing I won a dodgeball tournament,” Andrea said.
The Cougar Hunters are Andrea as well as juniors Kelly Clark, Sean Wells, Spencer Wells, Tim Vanneman and Scott Abramo.
