School alumna Molly McShane ’09, now a freshman on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) field hockey team, was recently named New England East Regional Player of the Year and Second Team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
Molly plays center midfielder and was recruited to play for MIT last year.
These awards were given to her after she helped MIT’s field hockey team finish their season with an 18-5 record, the school’s best record yet.
Molly has also received other awards including First Team All New England Women and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), and All Tournament Team at the Vassar Tournament.
Molly said playing for MIT was a rewarding experience.
“My experience playing at MIT has been amazing,” Molly said. “It’s a very stressful environment, but being a part of a team and being able to [play] field hockey everyday made it so much easier to adjust. I’m just sad the season’s over now.”
Molly plans on only playing field hockey through college and afterwards keeping it as a hobby.
“My only future plans with field hockey involve playing for MIT for the next three years,” Molly said. “I hope to still play for fun after that, but nothing more.”
