Fundraiser hosted by Athletic Boosters

For the third year in a row, the LAHS Athletic Boosters is organizing the High School Christmas Tree Lot, a fundraiser which runs from Friday, November 27 to Sunday, December 20. The Athletic Boosters will be selling Christmas trees at 350 S. San Antonio Road in the parking lot of the former Cal-Fed Bank and next to the 76 gas station.

According to fundraiser organizer Jerry Sorensen, the trees will be sold for $25 to $200. Hours are 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Students should mention the school so the donations will go to the LAHS Athletic Boosters.

Last year the fundraiser generated over $12,000 for Mountain View High School and about $2,000 for LAHS.

Fall sports compete, finish up in CCS

The fall sports season ended with many of the school’s teams competing in CCS. Both the boys and girls water polo teams made CCS semi-finals. The boys team played on Tuesday, November 15, and lost to Bellarmine College Prep 9-12.

The game was close, as the score was tied at 9-9 until the last 4 minutes of the game.

The next day the girls water polo team lost 7-3 to Menlo-Atherton High School. The team’s overall record was 23-6 after CCS.

The girls volleyball team also made CCS, but lost in the first round to Leland High School, ending its season with a record of 19-16 after CCS.

Both the boys and girls cross country team qualified, and senior Erin Hicks made it to state finals.

Neither the girls tennis team, the field hockey team nor the football team qualified for CCS. The football season ended its last game with a loss to rival Mountain View.

The tennis team ended its season with a record of 12-10, just missing CCS cut-offs. The field hockey team ended with a final record of 6-2-9.

Basketball season starts for boys, girls

Although the actual basketball season does not start until January, both the girls and boys basketball teams have begun the pre-season.

The boys’ first game was on Monday, November 30 against Menlo-Atherton High School at home, and the team won 60-55. The boys team also competed in the Cupertino Tournament Thursday through Saturday, December 3 to 5, placing third overall. The team will compete in the Fremont Tournament on December 18-22.

The girls team, which is in the El Camino Division, had its first tournament at Fremont High School from Tuesday, December 1 to Thursday, December 3, but it lost all of its games.

“I would say our team did well for our first tournament together,” senior Kacy Tachibana said. “At practice we work on the little things to improve our game and prepare for our next match.”

The next tournament is at Homestead on Monday, December 21 to Wednesday, December 23.
