State Law Mandates Student Verification of Tdap Booster Shots

Under State Assembly Bill 354, all Californian students in grades 7 through 12 are required to provide verification of a Tdap booster shot to attend school in the coming school year.

Although students are recommended to receive the booster shot after their 10th birthday, students who received the booster shot after the age 7 meet the requirements for school. The Tdap booster shot is a vaccine that will protect students against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough.

Principal Wynne Satterwhite said that the administration sent phone call reminders to students who have not been cleared for immunization. At the end of July, letters directing students on where to get immunizations were also sent out to the nearly 600 students who were not cleared.

The SIS accounts of students who have not turned in their immunization information are also blocked. Superintendent Barry Groves said that those students will not be able to pick up their schedules, get books or attend classes until they are cleared.
