The B Team holds on for the win in sudden death

The B Team, composed of ASB members senior Katherine Portelli, juniors Jack Montgomery, Chris Beyer, Kyle Riesch and Anthony Biondi and freshman John Lee, narrowly defeated team S.T.O.S 3-2 in sudden death overtime today, Tuesday, May 18.

After winning the first period, the B Team fell behind 2-1 with only a minute and ten seconds to play.
“When I saw my opponents, I was not very worried,” Anthony said. “After the first game we eased up… and then we stepped it up.”

In the final minute, ASB managed to quickly eliminate all but one of S.T.O.S’s members. With 30 seconds remaining and the crowd standing and cheering him on, an S.T.O.S. member narrowly avoided balls for 20 seconds before finally being hit with just 5 seconds remaining.

Despite the lunch bell ringing, the crowd stayed in place to watch sudden death overtime between the teams. In sudden death, the first player who gets out loses the game for their team.

Less than ten seconds into the sudden death period, Anthony struck a member of S.T.O.S to complete the comeback and move ASB on to the next round.

“It was relieving,” Anthony said about his throw. “Super.”

The B Team will play White T’s Reloaded on Friday, May 21.
