Volleyball team places second in tournament

The varsity volleyball team earned a second place trophy in the Cupertino Classic Volleyball Tournament last weekend. The tournament was for varsity teams only.

The team played four games on Saturday, September 26 at Cupertino High School before reaching the final game. The team lost the finals 0-2 to first seed school Valley Christian.

The team played Andrew Hill, Rosemont, Harker and Notre Dame of Belmont before reaching the finals. Although the team failed to win the tournament, members were proud of their semi-finals victory against Notre Dame of Belmont.

“The highlight moment [of the tournament] was…beating Notre Dame of Belmont in the third game,” junior Jenna Louie said. “Apparently we haven’t beaten them in three years.”

Senior Kacy Tachibana agreed with Jenna and believes that the win demonstrates overall improvement and success for the team.

“I would say we were successful because we communicated a lot more during the games, and our passing was more consistent,” Kacy said. “Passing is really key because then we can set up plays and get more kills from our hitters.”

Team members said the tournament was an overall good experience, giving the players the opportunity to play against teams of different skill levels.

“The beginning of the tournament was easy wins for us that we [used to] take advantage of working on communication and executing certain plays,” co-captain senior Rachel Nelson said. “Later on, we met more challenging teams, especially in the finals.”
