AVID Adds Chromebook Lending to BYOD Program

The school’s AVID program has recently begun lending out Samsung Chromebooks to its students as a part of its Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program.

When AVID initially received a set of new HP Chromebooks for its BYOD program earlier this month, the school’s administration decided that smaller Chromebooks would better suit students’ needs. Since the lending program is still in its early testing stages, the administration decided to lend out the HP Chromebooks and give AVID students the thinner Samsung Chromebooks that were previously lent out to students in the library.

“We felt that the smaller Samsung Chromebooks would be easier for students to go back and forth from class to class than the larger HP ones,” Assistant Principal Galen Rosenberg said.

The Chromebooks are expected to improve not only AVID’s BYOD program, but also to help those who didn’t previously have much access to computers.

“Students have been very excited and using them for both AVID and other classes,” AVID coordinator Joanne Miyahara said. “Several students had no computer access at home, so this really makes a difference in helping them get their academic work done.”
