The gymnastics team came out ready to compete this Friday, April 19, against the Saint Francis High School Lancers and the Mountain View High School Spartans. The Eagles managed to secure first place on the junior varsity level and second place on varsity.
“Estefani Gomez is our strongest JV gymnast right now,” junior Emma Orner said. “She is also our JV team captain and is an inspiration to everyone. She has come a long way since last year where she didn’t place very often, and now she is constantly winning first all around. Our strongest JV event right now is bars.”
Estefani placed first in bars and all-around and also placed in every other event.
“We did a lot better on the vault and floor events at this meet,” junior Lia Lazareva said.
For varsity, senior Kelli Yamaguma placed fifth in both beam and vault, making her the only Eagle to place.
“I believe this is the first time in a very long time that one of our teams has beat Saint Francis at a meet, which is huge for us,” Emma said. “Our JV team has been extremely successful this year, and has a very good chance of doing well at JV finals. As for varsity, Saint Francis has always been our toughest competition. We have a strong set of freshmen this year that really boost our strength, but Saint Francis will always be our biggest challenge.”
